Oluwatola wins fourth AFNIS at 2025 African Energy Summit Golf Tournament

Dr. Tobi Oluwatola, Chief Executive Officer of TAO Energy, emerged as the overall best net winner at the 2025 African Natural Resources and Energy Investment Summit Golf Tournament held in Abuja.

Competing off a handicap of 19, Oluwatola recorded a gross score of 86 and an impressive net score of 67 to top the leaderboard.

The fourth edition of the annual golf event took place at the TYB International Golf Resort and Country Club, drawing over 250 golfers from across the continent.

Speaking after his victory, a visibly thrilled Oluwatola described the win as particularly meaningful, marking his first-ever tournament triumph after years of near misses.

“This means a lot to me,” he said. “It’s been a long journey. I’ve been playing golf for four years now, and while I’ve finished second a few times in this tournament, this is the first time I’m taking home the top prize. It’s truly special.”

The energy executive revealed that despite a strong start, he faced tense moments toward the end of his round that nearly cost him the title.

“I felt confident early on. My putting was on point, and I was hitting several pars,” he explained. “But nerves kicked in late in the game. On hole 17, a par 3, I hit my tee shot into the bush. I genuinely thought my chances were gone.”

However, Oluwatola managed to salvage the hole with a remarkable recovery.

“I found the ball, chipped it out, it didn’t quite make the green, but then I chipped it in from just outside the fringe. At that point, I felt like destiny was on my side. I made par on the final hole, and the rest is history.”

The tournament, a highlight of the African energy investment calendar, continues to grow in prestige, attracting a blend of business leaders, investors, and avid golfers.
