Pakistan end South Africa’s winning streak with 93-Run triumph in lahore
Pakistan halted South Africa’s 10-match unbeaten streak in Test cricket with a hard-fought 93-run victory on day four of the opening Test in Lahore, Sport360NG reports.
Chasing 277 for victory, the Proteas were bowled out for 183, as Pakistan’s bowlers produced a disciplined display to seal an impressive win and start their World Test Championship campaign on a high.
South Africa resumed the day on 51-2, but hopes of a comeback quickly faded when first-innings centurion Tony de Zorzi was trapped lbw by Shaheen Afridi with just the third ball of the morning. From that point, the hosts seized control.
Left-arm spinner Noman Ali continued his excellent form, claiming 4-79 to finish with match figures of 10-191. He dismissed Tristan Stubbs cheaply and bowled Dewald Brevis for 54 after the youngster had briefly threatened to turn the contest.
Off-spinner Sajid Khan also made crucial breakthroughs, ending Ryan Rickelton’s dogged 145-ball innings of 45, while Shaheen returned later in the day to finish off the tail. The left-arm pacer removed Kyle Verreynne (19), Prenelan Subrayen, and Kagiso Rabada to wrap up the victory.
Earlier, Pakistan’s first-innings total of 378, built around half-centuries from Imam-ul-Haq (93) and Salman Agha (93), had given them the upper hand. Muthusamy was South Africa’s standout bowler with figures of 6-117 and 5-57 across the two innings.
The win lifts Pakistan to second place in the early 2025-27 World Test Championship standings, behind Australia, while South Africa will look to regroup ahead of the second and final Test, which begins on 20 October.
