Arsenal begin title celebrations with comfortable victory over Palace

Newly crowned Premier League champions Arsenal marked the start of their celebrations with a relaxed 2-1 victory against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park as both clubs turned their attention toward major European finals, Sport360NG reports.

Arteta opted to rest several regular starters ahead of next weekend’s Champions League final against Paris St-Germain, making nine changes from the team that defeated Burnley.

One of the biggest talking points before kick-off was the inclusion of Max Dowman, who became the youngest player ever to start a Premier League match at just 16 years and 144 days old.

Substitute Jean-Philippe Mateta reduced the deficit in the 89th minute after cleverly redirecting Yeremy Pino’s cross beyond the Arsenal goalkeeper.

Moments later, Pino believed he had rescued a dramatic draw when he fired home during added time. However, the goal was ruled out after the ball deflected off Evann Guessand, who was standing in an offside position.

The defeat leaves Palace in 15th place, six points above the relegation zone, although league position has become secondary for supporters with Wednesday’s Conference League final against Rayo Vallecano now the club’s main focus.

There was also concern surrounding Adam Wharton after the midfielder was substituted with a suspected ankle injury ahead of the European final in Leipzig.

Arsenal Fans Celebrate Long-Awaited Triumph

For Arsenal supporters, the result itself mattered far less than the occasion.

Fans gathered outside Selhurst Park hours before kick-off to welcome the team bus, singing and celebrating the club’s first Premier League title in 22 years.

After narrowly missing out in previous seasons, Arsenal have finally completed their rise under Arteta and finished the campaign seven points clear of second-placed Manchester City.

The match also represented the end of Oliver Glasner’s final league campaign in charge of Crystal Palace before his expected departure this summer.

Although Palace ended the domestic season without a win in seven matches, Glasner’s achievements have already secured his place in the club’s history.

The Austrian guided Palace to their first major trophy by winning the FA Cup last season and has now led them to a European final in their first appearance in continental competition.
