CBN Senior Tennis Championship kicks off in Abuja
The 46th edition of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Senior Tennis Championship is set to kick off today, Monday, with the men’s and women’s singles matches taking centre stage at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja.
Following the release of the tournament draws on Sunday, the singles categories will open proceedings on the courts at Package B of the stadium, while the doubles events are scheduled to begin on Tuesday at the same venue.
This year’s men’s singles category features a 64-player draw, while the women’s singles will begin with a 32-player field. The men’s and women’s doubles, as well as the wheelchair tennis events, will each be contested from the round of 16.
Among the top names expected to compete are Sylvester Emmanuel, Joseph Imeh, Aanu Aiyegbusi, Oyinlomo Quadri, and defending women’s singles champion, Mary-Love Edward.
Reaffirming the Central Bank’s commitment to the tournament, Acting Director of Corporate Communications, Mrs Hakama Sidi Ali, noted the bank’s unwavering support for sports development through the annual competition.
The championship began with qualifying matches on Friday, July 18, and will conclude on Saturday, July 26, 2025.
