Southern Brave edge Welsh Fire in thriller to seal fourth spot

Southern Brave secured fourth place in the men’s Hundred after edging Welsh Fire by just four runs in a dramatic contest at the Utilita Bowl, Sport360NG reports.

Chasing 168, Welsh Fire were carried by Tom Kohler-Cadmore’s superb 84 from 46 balls, the third-highest individual score of the tournament, but his dismissal on the penultimate delivery ended hopes of a late steal.

Earlier, Jason Roy laid the foundation for Brave with a blistering 70 off 39 balls, featuring two bursts of back-to-back sixes. His efforts lifted the hosts to 167-7, with Craig Overton and Jordan Thompson adding a vital 38 runs in the final 18 deliveries.

Overton then struck twice in the opening five balls of the chase, removing Stephen Eskinazi and Steve Smith to put Fire on the back foot. Kohler-Cadmore, however, counter-attacked with seven sixes and three fours, sharing an 81-run stand with Ben Kellaway that kept the visitors alive.

With seven needed from three balls, Kohler-Cadmore cleared the ropes to give Fire hope, only to be bowled next delivery. Thompson held his nerve to restrict the scoring to singles and seal the win.

The defeat confirmed bottom place for both Welsh Fire teams after their women’s side also lost to Brave earlier in the day.
