Nigeria Wrestling Federation (NWF) President, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi MFR, PhD, has sent a message of encouragement to the country’s wrestlers as they departed Abuja for the wrestling competition at the 6th Islamic Solidarity Games in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, Sport360NG reports.

The travelling party includes four athletes, Mercy Genesis, Damola Ojo, Christianah Ogunsanya and Esther Kolawole, as well as coach Purity Akuh. The Federation’s Secretary General, Oluwasegun Ademisoro, is also part of the contingent that left the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport on Friday.

Addressing the team before their departure, Adeniyi said the Federation would closely monitor their progress in Riyadh and urged the wrestlers to deliver performances that reflect their ability and preparation.

The Comptroller-General of Customs noted that the Games provide an important platform to measure Nigeria’s development as the country continues its push for greater success at global events such as the World Championships and the Olympic Games.

Adeniyi expressed confidence that the wrestlers will represent the nation with pride, reminding them of their responsibility as ambassadors of Nigeria.

“Believe in your abilities, give your best and uphold the highest level of discipline to make the President and Nigerians proud,” he told the athletes, adding: “We count on you to ensure Nigeria’s flag flies high in Riyadh.”
