Old Trafford boos ring out as united lose to 10-man Everton

Ruben Amorim’s troubled start at Manchester United deepened on Monday as his side fell 1–0 to an Everton team reduced to 10 men for more than 75 minutes following Idrissa Gueye’s extraordinary dismissal for striking team-mate Michael Keane, Sport360NG reports.

Old Trafford was left stunned early in the contest when Gueye and Keane became embroiled in a heated exchange, with replays clearly showing the midfielder raise his hands to the defender’s face. Everton were forced to play nearly the entire match a man down, yet it was United who looked short-handed.

The visitors took a deserved lead through a brilliant long-range strike from Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, who surged forward unchallenged before curling a shot beyond Senne Lammens’ reach, adding further scrutiny on the United goalkeeper.

Despite their numerical advantage, United offered little in response during a disjointed first half. Their only notable effort came from a speculative 30-yard attempt by Bruno Fernandes, comfortably gathered by Jordan Pickford, prompting boos from frustrated home supporters at the interval.

Missing injured forwards Benjamin Šeško and Matheus Cunha, Amorim’s team showed minimal improvement after the break. Mason Mount, introduced at half-time, squandered two openings, while Bryan Mbeumo was also denied by Pickford.

As United laboured and Amorim persisted with his rigid 3-4-2-1 setup, Sky Sports co-commentator Gary Neville delivered a scathing assessment.

“You’ve got five at the back, why?” Neville said. “They’re not winning first balls or second balls. It’s embarrassing.
The substitutions have led them into a dead end. There’s no agility or flexibility, from the coach or the players.”

United came closest to an equaliser through Joshua Zirkzee, making his first appearance in 225 days, but Pickford produced two outstanding saves before the striker headed a Kobbie Mainoo cross narrowly wide.

More jeers echoed around Old Trafford at full-time as former United manager David Moyes celebrated his first-ever victory at the stadium as a visiting coach. For Amorim, the defeat marks a new low in an increasingly challenging tenure.
