Morocco 2025 AFCON kicks off with spectacular opening ceremony featuring Davido and French Montana
The 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) officially got underway on Sunday night at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat, with a dazzling opening ceremony that celebrated African culture, unity, and football, Sport360NG reports.
Despite intermittent rain, the ceremony captivated fans with a dynamic mix of music, dance, pyrotechnics, and visual effects. Nigerian superstar Davido and Moroccan-American rapper French Montana led the performances, donning coordinated maroon ensembles. They were joined on stage by acclaimed producer RedOne and hundreds of performers, who formed intricate mosaics symbolizing Africa’s 54 nations around the iconic AFCON trophy.
The event marked Davido’s return to the AFCON stage for the first time since 2017, igniting excitement among Nigerian supporters. Social media quickly lit up with reactions praising the Afrobeats star, while fellow Nigerian artists, including Olamide, shared clips of the performance in celebration.
Following the vibrant ceremony, the tournament’s first match saw host nation Morocco secure a 2–0 victory over Comoros, signaling their determination to make a strong impact on home soil.
