Flemming’s stoppage-time header earns 10-man Burnley point at Chelsea

Burnley salvaged a dramatic late point at Stamford Bridge as Zian Flemming struck deep into stoppage time to secure a 1-1 draw against 10-man Chelsea, Sport360NG reports.

Flemming rose highest in the 93rd minute to power home a header from James Ward-Prowse’s corner, punishing the hosts after they had surrendered control following Wesley Fofana’s dismissal.

Chelsea appeared on course for a routine victory after taking the lead just four minutes into the contest. Joao Pedro turned in Pedro Neto’s cross from close range to cap a bright opening spell for the Blues, who dominated possession and territory in the early exchanges.

The hosts continued to press for a second, with Cole Palmer nearly capitalising on a loose pass from Kyle Walker near the halfway line, but he failed to lift his effort beyond Burnley goalkeeper Martin Dubravka. Two additional attempts before the interval were also denied by resolute defending.

Burnley’s clearest first-half opportunity came from a corner awarded under a revised interpretation of the goalkeeping time rule, after Robert Sanchez was adjudged to have held the ball for more than eight seconds. However, Lesley Ugochukwu volleyed over from the resulting delivery.

Chelsea maintained their threat after the restart. Joao Pedro saw an effort blocked by former Blue Bashir Humphreys, before heading over from a set-piece midway through the half.

The contest shifted in the 72nd minute when Fofana received his second yellow card for a challenge on Ward-Prowse, having earlier been cautioned for a late tackle on Hannibal Mejbri. Down to 10 men, Chelsea were forced onto the back foot.

Burnley responded swiftly. Four minutes after the sending-off, Josh Laurent tested Sanchez with a low drive, prompting Chelsea manager Liam Rosenior to reinforce his defence. At the other end, Burnley boss Scott Parker introduced fresh attacking options in pursuit of an equaliser.

The breakthrough arrived in added time when Flemming was left unmarked to nod in Ward-Prowse’s corner, stunning the home crowd. Substitute Jacob Bruun Larsen nearly completed the turnaround moments later but failed to convert a similar opportunity.

Chelsea supporters voiced their frustration at the final whistle, with the result marking another setback for the London side. The Blues have now dropped 17 points from winning positions at home this season, the most in the league, and have accumulated six red cards in the Premier League, eight across all competitions.

Despite the draw, Chelsea climb to fourth in the table, albeit having played a game more than Manchester United, and remain unable to reduce the gap on Aston Villa, who were held by Leeds United. Burnley, meanwhile, stay second from bottom, eight points adrift of safety.
