The 46th Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) National Open Tennis Championship concluded over the weekend in Abuja, showcasing high-level performances despite the absence of last year’s men’s and women’s singles titleholders.

Emmanuel Michael and U.S.-based Adesuwa Osabuohien rose to the occasion, claiming the top honours in the men’s and women’s singles categories, respectively.

In a thrilling men’s final at the Moshood Abiola Stadium’s Package B, Emmanuel edged out Prosper Okonkwo in a tightly contested three-set match, winning 7-5, 2-6, 6-3 to clinch the title and the event’s top cash prize. On the women’s side, Osabuohien battled back from a set down to defeat Omotayo Blessing 3-6, 5-1, 6-4, sealing her place as champion.

Speaking at the closing ceremony, the CBN Deputy Governor for Corporate Services, Mrs. Emen Usoro, represented by the Acting Director of Corporate Communications, Mrs. Hakama Sidi Ali, reaffirmed the bank’s long-standing commitment to tennis development in Nigeria. She noted that the tournament, which has been consistently held for over 40 years, expanded in 2006 with the inclusion of a junior category.

Usoro emphasized the CBN’s dedication to youth development, describing sports as a vital tool for empowerment, unity, and national growth.
