Palmer hat-trick powers Chelsea past Wolves as Rosenior’s revival continues

Cole Palmer delivered a stunning first-half hat-trick to lead Chelsea to a comfortable victory over bottom side Wolverhampton Wanderers, extending the Blues’ impressive run under Liam Rosenior, Sport360NG reports.

Palmer, who had scored just four Premier League goals prior to the fixture, almost matched that total inside 38 minutes with a ruthless display of finishing. The forward opened the scoring from the penalty spot after João Pedro was brought down in the area, calmly slotting into the corner.

A near-identical incident followed soon after, with Palmer again keeping his composure to convert from 12 yards and wrong-foot the goalkeeper after another foul on Pedro. He completed his treble in emphatic fashion, driving into space to finish from Marc Cucurella’s pass as the Wolves defence unravelled.

The treble saw Palmer make Premier League history, becoming the first player to score three separate first-half hat-tricks in the competition.

Wolves showed greater urgency after the interval, with Mateus Mané striking the woodwork before Toluwalase Arokodare reduced the deficit from close range following a corner. Despite the hosts’ improvement, Chelsea remained in control and saw out the remainder of the contest with little alarm.

The result marked Chelsea’s fourth consecutive league win under Rosenior and keeps them firmly in the hunt for Champions League qualification. They sit fifth in the table, just one point adrift of fourth-placed Manchester United.

Palmer Finding Form at the Right Time

After a standout 2025–26 campaign, the current season has been more challenging for Palmer, with injuries and inconsistent form limiting his impact. This performance, however, was a reminder of his sharpness and confidence in front of goal.

It was the third occasion he has netted a first-half hat-trick for Chelsea, underlining his importance when fully fit. The forward was withdrawn shortly after the hour mark as the club continues to carefully manage his minutes following a recent groin injury.

With the 2026 World Cup only months away and England set for their final pre-tournament friendlies in March, Palmer’s display served as a timely statement of his quality at both club and international level.

Defensive Lapses Cost Wolves

Wolves’ relegation fears deepened after another damaging defeat. While recent performances had offered some encouragement, their first-half defending proved costly on this occasion.

Matt Doherty conceded the opening penalty with a needless challenge, while Yerson Mosquera was at fault for the second, shoving Pedro inside the area. Although the hosts showed greater resilience and attacking intent after the break, the early damage had already been done.
