Premier League Seeks Clarification from Chelsea Over Ticket Resale Issue Involving Todd Boehly

The Premier League has reached out to Chelsea for clarification amid concerns surrounding ticket resellers, particularly involving Todd Boehly’s association with Vivid Seats. Boehly who serves as a director and investor in Vivid—is also a 13% shareholder of Chelsea.

Vivid Seats, which the Premier League classifies as an unauthorized ticket reseller, has reportedly listed Chelsea tickets—some priced as high as £20,000 last season for resale on its platform. Though Vivid is prohibited from operating within the UK, it remains active internationally.

In March, the Chelsea Supporters’ Trust penned an open letter urging the Premier League to investigate, calling Boehly’s dual role both a “breach of trust” and “a clear conflict of interest.”

At a recent Football Supporters’ Association event, Premier League CEO Richard Masters confirmed that discussions with Chelsea about the matter are underway and ongoing.

Meanwhile, the Supporters’ Trust has also submitted documentation against Vivid Seats to the Department for Culture, Media and Sport.

Requests for comment have been sent to Boehly, Chelsea, and Vivid Seats. Meanwhile, Vivid’s CEO, Stanley Chia, told Sportico that “economic and political volatility” has significantly impacted ticketing, with the company’s shares dropping 61% this year.

Chelsea has vowed to crack down on ticket touting, though it hasn’t explicitly named Vivid or similar resellers—an effort the Supporters’ Trust described as “encouraging.”

The issue gains extra weight against a backdrop of growing concern over fan atmosphere at Stamford Bridge—something highlighted by former coach Mauricio Pochettino and acknowledged by current head coach Enzo Maresca during last season’s Conference League “singing section” trials.

Chelsea are currently in the U.S. for the Club World Cup and will face ES Tunis in Philadelphia on Tuesday night.
