Ansu Fati Joins Monaco with the aim of reviving his career

Barcelona forward Ansu Fati has joined AS Monaco on a one-year loan deal, the French Ligue 1 club announced on Tuesday. The agreement includes an option to make the move permanent for €11 million ($13 million).

Fati, 22, becomes Monaco’s third signing of the summer, following the arrivals of England international Eric Dier and 2018 World Cup winner Paul Pogba—both of whom joined as free agents. The trio will be officially unveiled to the media on Thursday.

According to sources familiar with the negotiations, Barcelona will continue to pay a significant portion of Fati’s wages during his time in the Principality. However, the Spanish side stands to gain financially if the player is eventually sold.

Born in Guinea-Bissau, Fati made history when he debuted for Barcelona at just 16 years old. Over the years, he made 123 appearances for the club, scoring 29 goals and helping the Catalan giants to La Liga titles in 2023 and 2025, along with two Copa del Rey triumphs.

On the international stage, the Spanish forward has earned 11 caps and netted twice. He featured in the 2022 FIFA World Cup and was part of Spain’s victorious UEFA Nations League squad in 2023.

Fati’s 2023–24 season was marred by injuries during a loan stint at Brighton & Hove Albion in the Premier League. He featured in 27 matches across all competitions but managed just four goals. With limited appearances and no goals for Barcelona last season, the move to Monaco offers him a chance to reignite his career.
