Nigeria’s Wasi Adeshina Joins PFL Africa Line-Up for Johannesburg Showdown

Nigerian fighter Wasi Adeshina has been confirmed for the second edition of the Professional Fighters League (PFL) Africa, scheduled to take place on August 9 at the Big Top Arena, Carnival City in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Adeshina, popularly known as “The Nigerian Jaguar,” joins fellow countryman Patrick Ocheme on the growing roster of African talents set to feature in the landmark tournament. His addition adds further star power to a stacked card, which continues to highlight elite mixed martial artists from across the continent.

Adeshina is set to face Jean Lubaya of the Democratic Republic of Congo in a featherweight bout, one of four newly announced matchups for the Johannesburg event. The fight promises to be a thrilling contest as PFL Africa ramps up its mission to crown the inaugural champions of its four competitive divisions.

Ocheme (6-1) will headline the night in a high-stakes featherweight clash against Guinea’s Mohamed Camara (5-2-1), in what is expected to be one of the most exciting West African showdowns in recent memory.

Also featured on the main card is Angola’s Shido Boris Esperanca (9-1), who returns following a successful PFL debut, as he takes on Gambia’s Ibrahima Mané (14-5) in a welterweight first-round contest.

The Johannesburg leg follows PFL Africa’s debut event in Cape Town on July 19, where Nigeria’s Juliet Ukah — a police officer and versatile combat sports athlete — will headline the card at the Grand Arena.

PFL Africa’s inaugural season features 32 fighters from 15 African nations, competing across four divisions throughout 2025. More bouts for the Johannesburg event are expected to be unveiled in the coming weeks.

The tournament marks a historic step for African MMA, offering a professional platform to showcase local talent and develop future champions on the global stage.
