CAF Unveils “Born Winners” as Slogan for 2024 Women’s AFCON in Morocco

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced Born Winners as the official slogan for the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), set to begin this weekend in Morocco.

Described as a powerful tribute to the determination and influence of African women in football, the slogan was revealed in a short video shared across CAF’s official social media platforms on Tuesday evening. The promotional clip features notable figures, including members of Nigeria’s 2016 WAFCON-winning team and Super Falcons star Michelle Alozie, who appears both in her medical scrubs and national team kit—highlighting the dual roles many women play in society and sport.

In a statement published on its website Wednesday, CAF explained that Born Winners encapsulates the resilience, ambition, and leadership of African women on and off the field.

“This bold slogan is more than just a rallying cry—it is a declaration of identity,” CAF noted. “It pays homage to the spirit of African women who triumph in sport, society, and every aspect of life.”

The campaign aims to shine a spotlight on the trailblazers of the women’s game, from grassroots players to international icons, reflecting their enduring contributions to the development of football across the continent.

“From the streets of Dakar to the stadiums of Johannesburg, from local pioneers to global stars, these women rise—relentlessly and fearlessly,” the organisation said.

CAF emphasised that the slogan extends beyond sporting success, representing a broader message about social impact and generational change. It is a call to action inspired by real-life stories of purpose, strength, and legacy.

“Born Winners signals the end of waiting and the dawn of purposeful leadership and pride,” the statement added. “It embodies resilience—the drive to rise against all odds; ambition—the courage to break barriers; and legacy—the power to influence communities and inspire future generations.”

The launch of the campaign has drawn parallels with the Nigeria Football Federation’s recent Mission X initiative, introduced ahead of this year’s tournament to galvanise support for the Super Falcons as they aim to win a record-extending 10th continental title.

While CAF’s message is pan-African in scope, both campaigns underscore similar themes of empowerment, leadership, and identity in women’s sport.

The 11th edition of the Women’s AFCON kicks off in Morocco on Saturday. Nigeria, drawn in Group B, will begin their title quest against Tunisia on Sunday, July 6, in Casablanca, with Botswana and Algeria completing the group.
