D’Tigress Dominate Cameroon 83-47 to Book AfroBasket Semi-Final Spot
Reigning African champions Nigeria powered into the semi-finals of the 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket with a commanding 83–47 win over Cameroon on Thursday night in Abidjan, Sport360NG reports.
The six-time titleholders showed their class against a weary Cameroonian side, and will now face Senegal in the last four.
Cameroon made a fast start, scoring the game’s first four points, but their early lead was short-lived as Nigeria quickly seized control. A 7–0 response flipped the momentum, and from that point on, Coach Rena Wakama’s team never looked back.
The toll of Cameroon’s late-night qualifier against Angola was evident, and D’Tigress took full advantage. By halftime, they led 36–18, with Amy Okonkwo leading the charge. The forward delivered a dominant performance, tallying 15 points and five rebounds in the opening two quarters.
Nigeria’s bench depth proved decisive. Victoria Macaulay came on to make an immediate impact in the paint, adding both defensive intensity and scoring touch.
By the end of the third quarter, the scoreboard read 66–31 in favour of Nigeria, effectively ending the contest.
Okonkwo finished with 18 points, six rebounds, and an assist. Point guard Ezinne Kalu was pivotal in orchestrating the attack, notching five assists. Nicole Enabosi contributed 12 points, three rebounds, and two assists, while Macaulay added 12 points, four boards, an assist, a steal, and two blocks. Elizabeth Balogun also impressed with 11 points and five rebounds.
With the victory, Nigeria joins Mali, Senegal, and South Sudan in the semi-finals, and all four teams have now qualified for the 2026 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup qualifying tournaments, scheduled for March.
The African quartet will be part of a 24-team field in the global qualifiers, alongside teams from the Americas including the United States, Canada, Brazil, Argentina, Puerto Rico, and Colombia.
