Kebbi Governor Rewards Kauran Gwandu FC with ₦20m for League Triumphs
Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State has announced a ₦20 million cash reward for Kauran Gwandu Football Club, recognising their back-to-back victories in the Birnin Kebbi Youths Soccer League for the 2023/2024 and 2024/2025 seasons, Sport360NG reports.
The governor made the announcement on Sunday at the Government House in Birnin Kebbi during a ceremonial presentation of the team’s trophies by the club’s Team Manager, Abubakar Sadiq Bullet.
Clearly delighted by the team’s consistent success, Governor Idris commended both the players and club officials for their dedication and impressive performances.
“I’m truly proud of what this team has accomplished. Kauran Gwandu FC existed long before I entered politics and assumed office,” he said. “This is a personal initiative of mine and not a government project. I have been the sole sponsor since inception.”
He urged the players to stay focused and committed to excellence, describing sports as a powerful vehicle for youth development, empowerment, and economic advancement.
“Even in defeat, ensure that your professionalism and resilience remain evident to all,” he added. “This ₦20 million is meant to encourage the team to strive for even greater success.”
Earlier, Team Manager Bullet highlighted the team’s achievements, noting their successful league title defense and their qualification for the final of the Dutsinmari Cup.
“Your Excellency, your consistent support, financially and morally, has played a key role in our achievements. We’ve come to present our trophies and thank you for your fatherly guidance,” he said.
As a show of gratitude, the team captain presented Governor Idris with a championship medal.
In response, the governor reaffirmed his ongoing commitment to the club, stressing the role of sports in fostering discipline, unity, and opportunities for young people across the state.
