Tottenham in Talks with Manchester City Over Savinho Transfer
Tottenham Hotspur have opened discussions with Manchester City over the potential signing of Brazilian winger Savinho, Sport360NG reports.
Talks between the clubs have taken place in recent days, but negotiations remain in the early stages. Sources indicate City are reluctant to part with the 21-year-old, and any deal would likely require an offer in excess of £50m before they would consider selling.
Such a fee would represent a significant profit for City, who signed Savinho from French side Troyes for £30.8m last summer.
Savinho played an active role for Pep Guardiola’s side last season, making 48 appearances in all competitions and scoring three goals. However, the arrival of French winger Rayan Cherki from Lyon in a £30m move this summer could reduce his minutes at the Etihad.
Spurs’ Need for Reinforcements
Tottenham head coach Thomas Frank is eager to strengthen his attack following the sale of captain Son Heung-min to MLS outfit LAFC last week.
The North London club have already brought in Mohammed Kudus from West Ham for £55m, but missed out on Nottingham Forest’s Morgan Gibbs-White after failing to agree a £60m deal. The urgency to add creative options has increased following James Maddison’s anterior cruciate ligament injury, which is expected to keep the England midfielder out for most of the season.
Savinho’s Potential Role at Spurs
Savinho enjoyed an impressive final season at Girona, netting nine La Liga goals in 2023-24 before moving to Manchester City. His debut Premier League campaign saw him score once, but he remained a constant creative outlet, topping City’s assist chart.
While Tottenham have depth in the wide areas with Kudus, Wilson Odobert, Mathys Tel, and Brennan Johnson, options in central attacking midfield are limited. Savinho’s ability to operate on both wings could free Kudus to play as a number 10, a role he has previously excelled in for Ajax, Ghana, and at times West Ham.
