US Open 2025: Auger-Aliassime, De Minaur and Musetti book quarter-final spots

Felix Auger-Aliassime reached the US Open last eight for the first time in four years after an emphatic straight-sets win over 15th seed Andrey Rublev, Sport360NG reports.

The Canadian, seeded 25th, produced one of his most composed performances on Arthur Ashe Stadium, dispatching Rublev 7-5, 6-3, 6-4. It marked only his second victory in nine meetings with the Russian, who came into the contest as favourite.

Auger-Aliassime struck 42 winners, broke Rublev three times and dropped serve just once. His dominance rattled Rublev, who smashed his racquet at the end of the second set as frustration boiled over.

“I stayed calm and focused even when the pressure was on, that made the difference,” said Auger-Aliassime, who previously reached the semi-finals in New York in 2021. “The first time I got here, I was 21 and everything felt new. Since then I’ve had setbacks and injuries, so making it back now feels more earned. I’m enjoying every second.”

His next challenge will be eighth seed Alex de Minaur, who brushed aside Swiss qualifier Leandro Riedi.

De Minaur cruises into last eight

De Minaur booked his place in the quarter-finals with a commanding 6-3, 6-2, 6-1 victory that lasted just 93 minutes.

Despite a shaky serving performance, landing only 55% of first serves in the second set, the Australian never looked under threat. Riedi’s ultra-aggressive approach backfired as he racked up unforced errors, particularly as a leg problem hindered him late on.

“This is my sixth quarter-final at a Slam, and the mentality is simple, go for it, no holding back,” De Minaur said.

The 25-year-old has never progressed beyond this stage of a major tournament.

Musetti sets up potential Sinner clash

Italy’s Lorenzo Musetti also secured his first US Open quarter-final with a ruthless 6-3, 6-0, 6-1 win over Spain’s Jaume Munar.

The 10th seed broke early and dominated throughout, conceding just one game across the final two sets. Munar, visibly unwell, failed to win a single game in the second set and missed three break-point chances early in the third.

Musetti will now face either defending champion Jannik Sinner or 23rd seed Alexander Bublik for a place in the semi-finals.
