Remo Stars Come From Behind to Beat Kun Khalifat 2-1 in Aba
Defending Nigeria Premier Football League champions Remo Stars claimed their first win of the 2025/26 season on Monday, rallying to a 2-1 victory over hosts Kun Khalifat in Aba, Sport360NG reports.
After opening the campaign with a 1-1 draw against Rivers United, Daniel Ogunmodede’s side were eager to secure all three points against the newly-promoted team.
The match started unfavorably for Remo, who conceded a penalty within the first 15 minutes. Henry Ezeonye converted from the spot, giving Khalifat a surprising lead that they maintained into halftime.
Remo created several chances in the first half, including a near-goal from Samuel Anakwe, set up by Abubakar Ibrahim, which was denied by Khalifat goalkeeper Nsikak Abong. Stanley Joseph also saw his free-kick miss the target.
The champions intensified their attack after the break. Ogunmodede responded with a triple substitution in the 58th minute, introducing Haruna Hadi, Alex Oyowah, and Samson Olasupo for Adama Goita, Ibe Michael, and Ebuka Anthony.
The changes paid off, with Ibrahim Abubakar equalizing in the 70th minute. Just seven minutes later, substitute Olasupo scored to hand Remo the lead for the first time. Despite Khalifat’s late efforts to level the match, Remo held on for a vital win, climbing to fourth place on the NPFL table with four points from two matches.
Kun Khalifat, who started the season with a goalless draw against Rangers International, remain in 15th position with just one point from their opening two fixtures.
