Pierre Gasly has secured his long-term future in Formula 1 after agreeing a contract extension that will keep him with Alpine until the end of the 2028 season, Sport360NG reports.

The 29-year-old Frenchman, who claimed his sole Grand Prix victory at Monza in 2020, joined the Enstone-based outfit in 2023 and has since delivered two podium finishes. His renewed deal underscores Alpine’s confidence in him as a cornerstone of their plans for the sport’s next technical era, which begins in 2026.

Executive director Flavio Briatore, who returned to the team after Gasly’s arrival, praised the driver’s impact.
“Since coming back, I’ve stressed how vital it is to strengthen Alpine’s competitiveness,” Briatore said. “With Pierre confirmed as our lead driver, we are well-positioned for the new chapter of Formula 1. His talent, commitment and attitude have been invaluable, and we’re excited to continue this journey together.”

Gasly described the extension as a proud moment, highlighting the significance of racing for a French manufacturer.
“Committing my future to Alpine is very special,” he said. “Being a French driver with a French team means a lot. Since arriving in 2023, I’ve felt this is the right environment for long-term success.”

Gasly previously raced for Red Bull’s sister team, then known as AlphaTauri, where he scored his famous win at the Italian Grand Prix.

Alpine have yet to finalise their second driver for 2026. The seat has been held since May’s Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix by Franco Colapinto, who replaced Jack Doohan after six races. Doohan has since reverted to a reserve role.

The team had been exploring more experienced options to partner Gasly, but opportunities have narrowed after Valtteri Bottas and Sergio Pérez committed to Cadillac’s incoming F1 project.
