Victor Boniface Set for Possible Bremen Debut Against Gladbach

Nigerian forward Victor Boniface could make his first appearance for Werder Bremen when they visit Borussia Mönchengladbach in Sunday’s Bundesliga clash at Borussia-Park. Kick-off is set for 4:30 p.m. Nigerian time, Sport360NG reports.

The 24-year-old striker, who completed a loan switch from Bayer Leverkusen to Bremen on deadline day after a planned move to AC Milan collapsed, was officially presented by the club last week following his medical.

Boniface was a key figure in Leverkusen’s historic unbeaten Bundesliga title campaign in 2023/24 and is now in line to lead Bremen’s attack alongside Romano Schmid and Samuel Mbangula as coach Horst Steffen looks to recover from a heavy 4-1 loss to Eintracht Frankfurt.

Bremen, however, will be without several regulars. Niklas Stark is suspended, while Mitchell Weiser, Maximilian Wöber, Olivier Deman, Julian Malatini and Marco Friedl are sidelined with injuries.

Despite defensive concerns, the Green-Whites showed their attacking quality in a thrilling 3-3 draw against Leverkusen in their last home outing. Boniface, for his part, has brushed off suggestions about his fitness.

“Who’s questioning my fitness? If I wasn’t fit, I’d be in a hospital bed, not here talking to you,” he said during his unveiling. “People can say what they want, but if I wasn’t 100%, I wouldn’t be here.”

Since arriving from Belgian side Union Saint-Gilloise in 2023, Boniface has scored 32 goals and registered 12 assists for Leverkusen. However, he is still searching for his first goal in 13 international caps with Nigeria.
