Russell Westbrook joins Sacramento Kings ahead of 18th NBA season
Former NBA MVP Russell Westbrook has joined the Sacramento Kings as he prepares for his 18th season in the league, Sport360NG reports.
The 36-year-old guard spent last season with the Denver Nuggets, where he averaged 13.3 points, 6.1 assists and 4.9 rebounds across 75 appearances.
Westbrook became a free agent in June after Denver’s elimination in the Western Conference semi-finals and has now agreed to a deal with Sacramento, the seventh team of his career since being drafted by the Seattle Supersonics in 2008.
A nine-time All-Star, Westbrook owns the NBA record for career triple-doubles (203) and twice led the league in scoring, in 2015 and 2017. His career has also included stints with the Houston Rockets, Washington Wizards, Los Angeles Lakers and Los Angeles Clippers.
“Russell represents the competitive identity we’re building in Sacramento,” said Kings general manager Scott Perry. “His experience and achievements speak volumes. We believe he’ll add leadership, toughness and depth to our backcourt as we continue our push to contend.”
