Ruthless Chelsea sweep aside Barcelona in statement champions league victory
Chelsea produced one of the standout performances of this season’s Champions League on Tuesday night, dispatching Barcelona 3–0 at Stamford Bridge, Sport360NG reports.
The visitors nearly struck first, but Ferran Torres failed to convert a clear early chance. Chelsea responded by upping the pressure, though Enzo Maresca’s side saw an Enzo Fernández strike ruled out after a VAR check.
The breakthrough eventually came through Barcelona defender Jules Koundé, who diverted the ball into his own net. The Spanish champions’ evening worsened before the interval when Ronald Araújo received a second yellow card, leaving them to finish the match with 10 men.
Chelsea capitalised after the restart, extending their lead through Willian Estêvão before Liam Delap added a third to complete an emphatic win.
Elsewhere in Europe, Manchester City suffered a 2–0 defeat away to Bayer Leverkusen, while Newcastle surrendered a one-goal advantage in a 2–1 loss to Marseille. Juventus edged a five-goal contest at Bodo/Glimt, winning 3–2 in Norway, and Borussia Dortmund powered past Villarreal with a dominant 4–0 display.
