Bellingham hamstring injury leaves Real Madrid and England awaiting clarity

Real Madrid are assessing the extent of a hamstring injury sustained by midfielder Jude Bellingham during Saturday’s 2-1 La Liga victory over Rayo Vallecano, Sport360NG reports.

The 22-year-old England international was forced off in the opening stages at the Santiago Bernabéu, leaving the pitch visibly distressed after appearing to strain his left hamstring. He was replaced by Brahim Díaz less than 10 minutes into the contest.

Real Madrid later confirmed the injury on Sunday evening, stating that Bellingham will undergo further tests to determine the severity and likely recovery timeline.

Head coach Álvaro Arbeloa said he was unable to offer an immediate prognosis. “I don’t know anything yet about how serious it is,” he said. “Jude was in perfect condition to play and gave everything. It’s an important loss, but I have an extraordinary squad and full confidence in the players available.”

The timing of the setback is a concern for England, who face friendlies against Uruguay on 27 March and Japan on 31 March, ahead of head coach Thomas Tuchel naming his World Cup squad in May.

Should Bellingham be ruled out of the March international window, his push for a starting role at the World Cup could be dented. He has spent much of the past year competing with Morgan Rogers of Aston Villa for a place in Tuchel’s preferred 4-2-3-1 system.

Rogers, last season’s PFA Young Player of the Year, has strengthened his claim with consistent performances during England’s World Cup qualifying campaign, in which they scored freely without conceding. His position was further consolidated when Bellingham missed the September and October international breaks through injury.

While Rogers has emerged as a key figure in a Villa side chasing Champions League qualification, Bellingham’s recent weeks in Madrid have been more turbulent, including spells of criticism from supporters and the recent departure of head coach Xabi Alonso.

Another period on the sidelines would come at an inopportune moment for Bellingham, as both club and country await clarity on how long he may be absent.
