The Kaduna State Government has announced plans for a comprehensive reconstruction of the historic Ahmadu Bello Stadium, with the aim of upgrading the facility to meet FIFA requirements and transform it into a world-class sporting arena, Sport360NG reports.

Governor Uba Sani said the project will see the addition of 32,000 seats, a move that will significantly expand the stadium’s capacity and position it as Nigeria’s second-largest stadium, behind the Moshood Abiola National Stadium.

He explained that the redevelopment is part of a wider effort by the state government to modernise sports infrastructure and re-establish Kaduna as a leading centre for sports in Northern Nigeria.

The governor also revealed that, once completed, the revamped stadium will serve as the North-West headquarters of the National Institute for Sports, a development expected to enhance athlete development, coaching education and professional sports training across the region.

Ahmadu Bello Stadium, which has staged numerous national and international events over its 61-year history, is expected to play a key role in boosting sports tourism, generating employment and improving Kaduna’s ability to host major sporting competitions and programmes.
