The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has introduced new coaching regulations designed to boost female representation and technical development within women’s football across the continent, Sport360NG reports.

In a circular distributed to its Member Associations, CAF directed that all women’s national teams and clubs participating in competitions under its jurisdiction must include at least one qualified female coach on their technical bench.

Under the updated policy, either the Head Coach or the Assistant Coach must be a woman, provided she fulfills the required coaching qualifications for the respective position. CAF stressed that the appointed coach must meet the same licensing and competency standards stipulated in its existing coaching certification framework.

The initiative forms part of CAF’s broader commitment to advancing gender inclusion, strengthening technical standards, and expanding opportunities for certified female coaches in African football.

Member Associations and affiliated clubs have been urged to align with the directive ahead of forthcoming women’s tournaments, as CAF continues its drive to professionalise and elevate the women’s game across Africa.
