Harry Maguire has signed a new one-year contract with Manchester United, with the agreement including an option to extend for an additional season, Sport360NG reports.

The 33-year-old centre-back was approaching the end of his previous deal, which had been set to expire at the conclusion of the current campaign.

Maguire joined United from Leicester City in 2019 for £80m, a fee that remains a world record for a defender. Since his arrival at Old Trafford, he has made 266 appearances and lifted both the League Cup in the 2022–23 season and the FA Cup a year later.

Speaking after committing his future to the club, Maguire described playing for United as a privilege.

“Representing Manchester United is the ultimate honour. It is a responsibility that makes myself and my family proud every single day,” he said.

“I am delighted to extend my journey at this incredible club and continue creating more memorable moments with our supporters.”

Maguire’s future at United had previously been uncertain. He lost the captaincy under former manager Erik ten Hag and was close to joining West Ham United in August 2023, before the move collapsed.

Opportunities remained limited during the tenure of Ruben Amorim, but the defender has enjoyed a resurgence under interim boss Michael Carrick, starting all 10 matches since mid-January 2026.

Reflecting on the current squad, Maguire expressed confidence in the club’s direction.

“You can feel the ambition and potential of this exciting group. The determination to compete for major honours is clear, and I believe our best moments are still ahead.”

United’s director of football, Jason Wilcox, praised the defender’s professionalism and influence within the squad.

“Harry embodies the resilience and mentality required to succeed at Manchester United. His experience and leadership are vital for a young and ambitious team,” Wilcox said.

The extension reflects a mutually beneficial decision, with the club valuing Maguire’s experience, particularly amid expected changes in the squad, and the player settled in the north-west.

Despite facing criticism at various points during his United career, Maguire has remained a dependable option across multiple managerial regimes, making 91 appearances since the summer of 2023. His composure, defensive strength, and leadership qualities continue to earn the trust of coaches, even as debate over his performances persists.

While no longer at the peak of his early United years, Maguire’s renewed contract ensures his presence remains part of the club’s plans as they aim to compete for further silverware.
