Fleetwood storms into four-shot lead as weather-hit St Jude Championship

Tommy Fleetwood produced another sparkling round to move into a commanding position at the St Jude Championship before severe weather forced a suspension of play in Memphis, Sport360NG reports.

The 34-year-old Englishman backed up his opening 63 with a six-under-par 64, featuring seven birdies and a single bogey on the 18th, to reach 13 under par and lead by four shots in the first event of the FedExCup play-offs.

Fleetwood, still chasing his maiden PGA Tour win after six runner-up finishes, last came close in June when he narrowly missed out at the Travelers Championship.

“It hasn’t happened for me yet on the PGA Tour, but I’d rather be in contention and fall short than not be there at all,” he said. “Maybe this weekend is the one, I’m happy to give myself the chance.”

Collin Morikawa, the two-time major winner, carded a 65 to join fellow American Akshay Bhatia at nine under. England’s Justin Rose, also on that mark, was on the 17th tee when play was halted due to lightning.

World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler sits six shots back at seven under after a second-round 66. Sweden’s Ludvig Åberg is at six under, while England’s Harry Hall slipped to four under following a 72, one ahead of Scotland’s Robert MacIntyre.

Former US Open champion Matt Fitzpatrick endured a difficult day, his 71, containing five bogeys, dropping him to two under.

Play will resume on Saturday at 13:30 BST with 21 players yet to complete their second round.
