The White House is set to stage a mixed martial arts (MMA) event on July 4 next year, coinciding with the United States’ 250th Independence Day celebrations, according to Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) president Dana White, Sport360NG reports.

Speaking on CBS on Tuesday, White confirmed that the event will take place, describing it as the first of its kind at the heart of U.S. political power. “It’s definitely happening,” he said. “I spoke with the president last night, and I’ll be heading there later this month to review plans, designs, and determine exactly what he wants.”

President Donald Trump, a long-time attendee of UFC fights, is known for his close ties with the sport and with White personally. The president’s daughter, Ivanka Trump, is expected to play a role in organizing the high-profile July 4 spectacle.

Founded on a mix of combat disciplines such as boxing, wrestling, Brazilian jiu-jitsu, and kickboxing, the UFC is the world’s largest MMA organization. Fights are contested inside an eight-sided cage known as “The Octagon,” where, aside from a few prohibited moves like eye gouging, fighters are free to use a wide range of striking and grappling techniques until a knockout, submission, or referee stoppage.

White, who took control of the then-struggling UFC in 2001, has turned it into a global sports powerhouse. The organization recently signed a $7.7 billion streaming deal with Paramount, the parent company of CBS.

While MMA has attracted a loyal fan base, particularly among younger viewers, it remains controversial due to its violent nature and the risk of serious injuries, including brain trauma. Still, it has seen growing mainstream acceptance, and Trump’s association with the UFC has made him a regular presence at major fight nights, where he is often greeted enthusiastically by crowds.
