Chelsea Close In on Garnacho as Maresca Confirms Training Ground Arrival
Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has confirmed that Alejandro Garnacho has reported to the club’s Cobham training ground ahead of a £40 million move from Manchester United, Sport360NG reports.
An agreement between the two clubs was reached on Thursday, with United boss Ruben Amorim deeming the 21-year-old surplus to requirements at Old Trafford. Garnacho travelled to southwest London on Friday to complete his medical and finalise personal terms.
“I know he is around here,” Maresca told reporters when asked about the Argentina international. “I don’t know exactly where. He’s a winger, I see him as a winger.”
Maresca refused to close the door on further transfer activity before Monday’s deadline, adding: “The window is open, anything can happen in or out.”
The Italian also provided an injury update, confirming that Cole Palmer will miss Saturday’s west London derby against Fulham after a groin problem forced him off in the midweek draw with West Ham. Defenders Benoît Badiashile and midfielder Romeo Lavia are also sidelined and are not expected to return until after the international break.
“Cole we need to check day by day,” said Maresca. “Romeo and Benoît, I don’t think they’ll be back after the break, but they will be closer.”
Chelsea head into the weekend sitting fourth in the Premier League table, having followed up a 0-0 draw with Crystal Palace by thrashing West Ham 5-1.
