Osimhen downplays injury concerns as Galatasaray confirm muscle strain
Victor Osimhen has eased fears over the injury he picked up during Nigeria’s 2026 World Cup playoff defeat to DR Congo, insisting the issue is not serious, Sport360NG reports.
The striker was substituted at halftime in Sunday’s clash in Rabat after feeling discomfort in his thigh, a move taken largely as a precaution. Speaking to A Spor upon his arrival in Turkey, Osimhen reassured that the setback was minor.
“My condition is not serious,” he said.
Osimhen is scheduled to undergo an MRI scan to assess the extent of the problem. Reports in Turkey indicate that Galatasaray are prepared to leave him out of this weekend’s Super Lig fixture against Gençlerbirliği as a safety measure.
Galatasaray later issued a statement confirming that the 26-year-old suffered a muscle injury during the match. Medical tests revealed a moderate strain accompanied by bleeding in the left posterior muscle. The club noted that treatment has already commenced but did not specify a recovery timeline.
Osimhen’s absence represents a significant blow for the Turkish champions, with the forward enjoying an impressive start to the season, scoring nine goals in 12 appearances across all competitions.
