Southampton ready to sell Joe Aribo in january amid limited playing time

Southampton are reportedly willing to let Super Eagles midfielder Joe Aribo leave St Mary’s for as little as £1.5 million during the January transfer window, with interest reportedly coming from Turkish Super Lig clubs, Sport360NG reports.

The 29-year-old has struggled for form and opportunities this season, falling out of favour under both Will Still and Tonda Eckert. Following Southampton’s relegation from the Premier League, Aribo was expected to seek a move, particularly with only one year remaining on his contract, but a transfer did not materialise despite reported interest from multiple clubs.

Aribo’s situation has worsened this season, with the midfielder making just six appearances totaling 114 minutes and failing to start a single match. He has not featured for more than 30 minutes in any game and has yet to register any goals or assists.

With his contract expiring this summer, Southampton appear ready to accept a reduced fee. While Aribo is valued at around €4 million, limited game time means the club may settle for approximately £1–1.5 million. Turkish sides Trabzonspor and Göztepe are among the clubs reportedly monitoring the player’s situation.

Southampton could also approve moves for other squad members during the winter window. Winger Sam Edozie may depart for around £6 million, goalkeeper Alex McCarthy could consider leaving if a replacement is signed, and midfielder Kuryu Matsuki is expected to go out on loan after featuring for just 35 minutes this season.

Aribo, who joined Southampton in 2022, faces a crucial winter as he seeks regular football away from St Mary’s.
