FIFA unveils trophy as women’s champions cup nears historic finish

The inaugural FIFA Women’s Champions Cup moved closer to its landmark conclusion on Monday with the official unveiling of the trophy that will be presented to the first winners of the global women’s club competition, Sport360NG reports.

FIFA confirmed the reveal took place in London, where the trophy was showcased to pupils from a local school near Brentford Stadium, the venue set to host the semi-finals on Wednesday, 28 January.

The unveiling was led by former England international and Arsenal great Alex Scott alongside Jill Ellis, the organisation’s Chief Football Officer and a two-time Women’s World Cup-winning coach.

Ellis said the event highlighted football’s role in inspiring the next generation, adding that the enthusiasm shown by the children was a powerful reminder of the sport’s ability to connect and motivate young people. She also expressed anticipation about seeing the pupils in attendance at the stadium later this week.

Scott, an ambassador for the 2026 edition of the tournament, described the competition as a defining moment for women’s club football, noting that it brings together continental champions from around the world. She said the standard of play on show is expected to inspire young players and supporters globally.

The pupils received official tournament merchandise, took part in a question-and-answer session with Ellis and Scott, and were given the opportunity to see and interact with the trophy. They will also attend one of the semi-final fixtures.

On the pitch, action begins at Brentford Stadium with two semi-final ties. CONCACAF champions Gotham FC face Brazil’s SC Corinthians, winners of the CONMEBOL Libertadores Femenina. European champions Arsenal Women FC will then meet Morocco’s ASFAR, the CAF Women’s Champions League holders.

The tournament concludes on Sunday, 1 February, at Arsenal Stadium, where both the third-place play-off and the final will be played, culminating in the crowning of the first intercontinental champions in women’s club football.

FIFA said the Women’s Champions Cup is designed to elevate the global profile of the women’s game, offering greater visibility for elite players and supporting the continued growth of women’s football worldwide.
