Osimhen Lowers Wage Demands to Boost Man United Prospects
Victor Osimhen is reportedly ready to accept a weekly salary just below £200,000 to join Manchester United, contrary to widespread claims that he is seeking £300,000 per week. This update comes from renowned transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano, who clarified that the Napoli striker simply wants his current earnings — around €12 million net per year (approximately £10.2 million) — to be maintained.
Romano told Givemesport that suggestions of a £300,000-a-week demand are exaggerated. “He just wants his current salary to be respected, nothing different. Same as one year ago,” he explained.
This lower-than-expected wage demand could make Osimhen a more realistic target for United, who are looking to manage their wage structure under the guidance of INEOS. With Mason Mount already earning £250,000 per week at Old Trafford, Osimhen’s salary request is far from unreasonable.
The 26-year-old is expected to leave Napoli this summer after a standout loan spell at Galatasaray, where he scored 37 goals and provided eight assists in 41 appearances, helping the Turkish side win both the Super Lig and the Turkish Cup.
United Face Competition as Juventus and Liverpool Circle
While Manchester United continue their search for a reliable striker to lead the line — with Rasmus Højlund struggling for consistency and Joshua Zirkzee better suited to a supporting role — they are not alone in pursuing Osimhen.
Napoli are reportedly open to a deal with Liverpool involving a potential swap for Darwin Núñez. However, Osimhen is said to favour a move to Juventus, as he finds their long-term project more attractive than the other options on the table.
The Nigerian forward also recently rejected a lucrative £30 million-a-year offer from Saudi side Al-Hilal, reaffirming his preference to stay in European football. United legend Rio Ferdinand weighed in on the situation, suggesting the striker could be holding out for a move to Old Trafford.
“It looks like he’s turned down Al-Hilal… he must be waiting for Manchester United. I don’t know if Manchester United are going to come. That’s the problem,” Ferdinand said on his YouTube channel.
Osimhen’s contract at Napoli runs until 2026 and contains a €75 million release clause, though this is only valid for non-Italian clubs — meaning Juventus would need to negotiate directly with the Serie A champions.
Since arriving at Napoli in 2020, Osimhen has scored 76 goals and registered 18 assists in 133 appearances, playing a key role in their 2022/23 Serie A title triumph. As interest mounts, a summer departure appears imminent.
