Fans tips Super Falcons for 10th WAFCON crown
With just weeks to go before the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) kicks off in Morocco, football fans in Aba are expressing strong belief in the Super Falcons’ chances of clinching a record-extending 10th continental title.
Supporters who spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday said they were optimistic about Nigeria’s prospects, citing the team’s pedigree and recent performances in warm-up matches.
The Super Falcons recently wrapped up their final preparatory games, playing out a goalless draw against Portugal before securing an impressive 3-1 victory over Ghana.
Nneka Innocent, one of the fans, said she believes the team has the talent and unity needed to go all the way in Morocco. She praised the players’ hunger and discipline, noting that under Coach Justin Madugu, the squad looked well-prepared.
“Our young players are motivated and determined,” she said. “But they must put the results of the friendlies behind them and fully focus on the WAFCON games.”
Echoing similar sentiments, Ndudim Isaac highlighted Nigeria’s dominance in African women’s football and urged the team to build on their winning mentality.
“Beating Ghana, one of Africa’s strongest sides, shows we are ready,” he said. “If they maintain this level, I see them topping their group and advancing to the final.”
Another supporter, Ugochukwu Obasi, labelled the Super Falcons as tournament favourites and called for consistency and mental toughness throughout the competition.
“They must approach every match with the same level of seriousness,” he advised. “From the first group game to the final, every opponent should be treated as a potential threat.”
Nigeria will begin their WAFCON campaign in Group B, where they are set to face Tunisia, Botswana, and Algeria. Their opening match is scheduled for July 26.
