WAFCON 2024:Nigeria vs Zambia – date, time and where to watch

The Super Falcons of Nigeria are bracing for a decisive quarterfinal encounter against Zambia’s Copper Queens as the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) enters the business end in Morocco.

Heavyweights Clash in Casablanca

Friday’s fixture at the Stade Larbi Zouli in Casablanca promises high drama, with two of the continent’s strongest sides going head-to-head. Nigeria, the most decorated team in WAFCON history with nine titles, advanced to the knockout stage as winners of Group B.

The Falcons began their campaign with a convincing 3-0 victory over Tunisia and followed up with a 1-0 win against Botswana. However, a lacklustre goalless draw with Algeria in their final group game raised concerns about the team’s attacking efficiency despite finishing the group with seven points.

Zambia’s Grit-Fuelled Journey

Zambia’s road to the quarterfinals was marked by resilience and flair. The Copper Queens held tournament hosts Morocco to a 2-2 draw, edged Senegal 3-2 in a pulsating contest, and sealed qualification with a narrow 1-0 win over DR Congo, also amassing seven points to finish second in Group A.

With star striker Barbra Banda and creative midfielder Grace Chanda in fine form, Zambia will be looking to unlock Nigeria’s defence and cause a major upset.

Nigeria’s Attacking Concerns

Super Falcons head coach Justin Madugu has admitted concerns over his team’s recent struggles in front of goal, particularly following the stalemate against Algeria.

“We’re using the same players who got us goals earlier, so we have to figure out what changed and correct it,” Madugu told journalists. “It’s something we’re working on urgently.”

The coach hinted at potential tactical tweaks as Nigeria prepares for what could be one of their toughest tests yet in the tournament.
