Injury Worry for Lookman Amid Inter Milan Transfer Links
Atalanta forward Ademola Lookman is facing a spell on the sidelines after sustaining a calf injury during training, casting uncertainty over his immediate future amid strong interest from Inter Milan.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Nigeria international began experiencing discomfort in his calf following Wednesday’s training session, with the pain intensifying during ball work. While the injury is not believed to be serious, it has ruled him out of full training, and further medical tests are expected to determine the extent of the problem.
The timing of the setback is significant, coming as Lookman continues to be linked with a high-profile move to Inter Milan. Reports suggest the Nerazzurri have tabled an opening bid of €40 million for the 27-year-old, though Atalanta are holding out for a fee closer to €50 million.
Italian outlet Calciomercato adds that Inter are exploring the possibility of including midfielder Kristjan Asllani in a player-plus-cash offer to meet Atalanta’s valuation. The Serie A champions are said to have already agreed personal terms with Lookman, who is understood to favour a move to the San Siro.
Respected journalist Gianluca Di Marzio previously confirmed Inter’s serious interest in the Super Eagles star, reporting that a deal with the player is in place as negotiations between the clubs continue.
Lookman is coming off a stellar season, having scored 20 goals in all competitions for Atalanta in 2024/25. His hat-trick in the UEFA Europa League final against Bayer Leverkusen was one of the highlights of the European campaign and elevated his profile across the continent. He also netted 17 times the previous season.
Atletico Madrid and Arsenal are among the clubs reportedly monitoring his situation, but Inter appear to be in pole position. New manager Christian Chivu is said to view Lookman as a key figure in his attacking plans.
Despite being under contract with Atalanta until 2027, there is a belief that the club had previously agreed to consider offers for Lookman this summer. Whether the calf injury will delay or complicate the transfer remains to be seen, with both clubs now likely to monitor the winger’s recovery before moving forward with any deal.
