Flamengo Set to Land Atlético Madrid Midfielder Saúl Ñíguez
Brazilian giants Flamengo are on the brink of securing a high-profile signing, with Atlético Madrid midfielder Saúl Ñíguez set to join the club, according to transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano.
Romano revealed via his X (formerly Twitter) account on Monday that Flamengo have reached a verbal agreement with Saúl over a three-year contract. The deal gained momentum after the Spanish midfielder’s proposed move to Turkish side Trabzonspor collapsed earlier in the day.
Flamengo’s sporting director, José Boto, is credited with playing a key role in convincing the 29-year-old to make the switch to Brazil, reportedly working tirelessly overnight to finalize the agreement.
In a separate development, Flamengo defender Wesley França is close to completing a move to Serie A side AS Roma in a deal worth €25 million plus add-ons. Romano reports that Flamengo are expected to approve the transfer once they secure a replacement for the 19-year-old.
Additionally, 16-year-old Brazilian prospect Antonio Arena is scheduled to undergo a medical with Roma on Tuesday as the Italian club continues its investment in young talent.
