Le Court Makes History with Stage Five Win at Tour de France Femmes

Kim le Court etched her name into the history books on Wednesday, becoming the first African rider to win a stage at the Tour de France Femmes. Her thrilling victory on stage five not only earned her a place in the record books but also secured her the overall race lead, Sport360NG reports.

The 29-year-old Mauritian surged ahead in a dramatic sprint finish in Guéret, narrowly edging out Dutch contender Demi Vollering by the slimmest of margins after sitting up to celebrate just before the line. The calculated risk paid off, and the win handed Le Court the coveted yellow jersey, which she claimed from Marianne Vos.

Le Court’s triumph came after she broke away with six others on the 165.8km mountainous route, the longest of this year’s race. With her powerful finish, she outpaced a group packed with strong names, cementing her place at the top of the general classification.

France’s Pauline Ferrand-Prévot is now second overall, 18 seconds behind Le Court, while Vollering sits third at 23 seconds back. Vos, who finished 33 seconds off the pace, slipped to sixth in the standings.

The stage was marred by an early exit for Olympic champion Kristen Faulkner, who suffered a crash in the neutral zone and was forced to abandon, her third fall in as many days.

Riders now prepare for Thursday’s sixth stage, the first mountain challenge of the tour, a 123.7km route from Clermont-Ferrand to Ambert that could shake up the standings once more.
