Lionesses Greeted by Thousands as London Celebrates Euro 2025 Triumph

England’s women’s national team received a hero’s welcome in London on Monday, as tens of thousands of fans gathered to celebrate their historic back-to-back European Championship victory, Sport360NG reports.

An estimated 65,000 supporters lined The Mall for a jubilant open-top bus parade that concluded in front of Buckingham Palace, where the Lionesses were met with cheers, music, and a royal presence. Princess Beatrice of York was among the attendees, adding a regal touch to the festivities.

The celebrations followed England’s dramatic penalty shootout win over Spain in the Euro 2025 final on Sunday, a result that confirmed their dominance on the continental stage.

Captain Leah Williamson, visibly emotional, expressed her gratitude and awe as the team rolled past the packed crowd.

“I’ve been crying all the way down The Mall,” said the Arsenal defender. “It’s hard to describe this feeling. We’re rewriting history with every step we take. This journey isn’t over.”

Chloe Kelly, whose cool-headed penalty sealed Sunday’s win, echoing her heroics from the 2022 final, downplayed the pressure she faced, instead highlighting the squad’s unity.

“Pressure? What pressure?” the 27-year-old smiled. “It’s been incredible standing shoulder to shoulder with these amazing women and all the staff behind the scenes. The support, both here and throughout Switzerland, has been unbelievable.”

Adding to the surprises on the day, head coach Sarina Wiegman was treated to a special moment when Nigerian music star Burna Boy, her favorite artist, appeared on stage to perform. The Dutch coach joined in, singing and dancing to his hit For My Hand, to the delight of players and fans.

“Sarina’s got some serious moves,” joked defender Esme Morgan on BBC Radio 5 Live. “Her reaction when Burna Boy came out, none of us were ready for that!”

Morgan also admitted the squad had been unsure about how many people would show up to the parade.

“A few of us were actually worried the route might be too long, that there wouldn’t be enough people,” she said. “But to see it packed like that, it’s overwhelming. We’re truly lucky.”

The Football Association confirmed the crowd size, with chief executive Mark Bullingham revealing that the players had been nervously asking whether fans would attend.

“They kept asking, ‘Do you really think people will come?’” he said. “We knew they would, they showed up at the airport, and they showed up again today. The public has been phenomenal.”

After landing at Southend Airport on Monday, the team visited Downing Street before continuing their celebrations in the capital. Pop singer Heather Small performed her hit Proud, a symbolic anthem for the Lionesses throughout the tournament.

For Chelsea defender Niamh Charles, the moment was especially surreal.

“I never imagined anything like this,” said Charles, who grew up on the Wirral. “I remember visiting Buckingham Palace as a kid. We have pictures of me here as a tourist. To now be standing in front of it with a Euro winners’ medal, it’s just unbelievable.”

Reflecting on the parade from atop the bus, Charles noted the diversity in the crowd.

“I tried to look at individual faces, young, old, people from all walks of life. Everyone was just so happy. That’s what makes this so special.”

With their European crown secured once again, the Lionesses are already setting their sights on the 2027 World Cup, eager to improve on their runner-up finish from 2023.
