Abuja, Nigeria’s capital, is set to welcome young volleyball talents from across the continent as teams begin to arrive today (Friday) ahead of the 2025 Confederation of African Volleyball (CAVB) U-18 Boys and Girls Beach Volleyball Championship, Sport360NG reports.

The week-long tournament, scheduled for August 1 to 7, will bring together junior teams from 20 African countries, all vying for continental glory on the sands of Abuja. Team arrivals are expected to be completed on the opening day, with competitive matches slated to begin over the weekend.

Musa Nimrod, President of the CAVB Beach Volleyball Commission, expressed confidence in Nigeria’s preparations and assured that the country is ready to deliver a seamless tournament.

“All is set for Nigeria to host the 2025 CAVB U-18 Beach Volleyball Championship in Abuja,” Nimrod said. “We’ve put the necessary logistics in place to ensure a smooth competition.”

Highlighting the country’s track record, Nimrod noted that while Nigeria has previously hosted Olympic qualifiers and a senior-level championship, this marks the first time it will stage the U-18 edition. He also expressed optimism about Nigeria’s potential to host future FIVB-sanctioned events.

He extended appreciation to the Federal Government for its continued support: “I commend the government for fostering an environment where sports can flourish. This championship provides a vital platform for young athletes to display their skills.”

Importantly, the 2025 U-18 African championship also serves as a qualifying event for the 2026 FIVB U-19 Beach Volleyball World Championships, set to take place from July 9 to 12.
