Two Tribes powers to emphatic Stewards’ Cup victory at Goodwood

Two Tribes capped off a remarkable week with a commanding win in the Stewards’ Cup at Glorious Goodwood, securing his second major handicap success in just seven days, Sport360NG reports.

The Richard Spencer-trained sprinter, partnered by jockey David Egan, was backed into 11-2 from as long as 18-1 on Friday. The three-year-old gelding, owned by Phil Cunningham and named after the 1980s hit song by Frankie Goes to Hollywood, had claimed the International Handicap at Ascot the previous weekend.

Drawn high in stall 25 of the 27-runner field, Two Tribes showed an electric turn of foot to pull clear of his rivals and cross the line two and a half lengths ahead of Strike Red, with Jakajaro finishing third.

“He actually won this easier than he did at Ascot,” Egan said after the race, celebrating with a fist pump. “It’s not often a horse can pull off two big wins like this in such a short space of time.”

Trainer Spencer also had a strong hand in the race, with Run Boy Run and Twilight Calls finishing fourth and fifth respectively.

Earlier on the final day of the five-day festival, Callum Rodriguez guided the Owen Burrows-trained filly Waardah to victory in the Lillie Langtry Stakes.

Rodriguez’s week had gotten off to a rocky start after a private plane carrying several jockeys was forced to make an emergency landing on Thursday, causing them to miss their rides.

“It was a chaotic beginning to the week, but thankfully we were back on solid ground today,” said Rodriguez.

Meanwhile, Oisin Murphy finished as the leading jockey at this year’s Glorious Goodwood, racking up six wins over the course of the meeting.
