Frank Mill, a member of West Germany’s 1990 World Cup-winning squad, has died at the age of 67. His former clubs, Fortuna Düsseldorf and Rot-Weiss Essen, announced his passing on Tuesday, Sport360NG reports.

Mill reportedly died as a result of complications from a major heart attack he suffered in May.

Although he didn’t feature on the pitch during the 1990 World Cup in Italy, Mill earned 17 caps for West Germany during his international career. He was also part of the squad that won bronze at the 1988 Seoul Olympics and lifted the DFB-Pokal with Borussia Dortmund.

Rot-Weiss Essen, his boyhood club, paid tribute by describing him as “a legend” and “an ambassador for football across the country.”

Mill is the second player from West Germany’s 1990 World Cup team to pass away, following the death of Andreas Brehme earlier this year. Brehme famously scored the winning goal in the final against Argentina.
