Adam Peaty Targets Glasgow 2026 as Launchpad for LA Olympic Return

Triple Olympic champion Adam Peaty sees next year’s Commonwealth Games in Glasgow as a key step in his bid to reignite his career ahead of the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles, Sport360NG reports.

The 30-year-old swimmer took a break from the sport after claiming silver at the 2024 Games in Paris but is now plotting a comeback, with Glasgow firmly in his sights as part of the long-term plan.

“Glasgow is a great opportunity,” said Peaty, who won two golds at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in the same city. “I’m not focused on times or even winning, I just want to see what unfolds on the day. There’s that famous saying: you don’t win the Olympics every four years, you win it every day in between. That applies here too.”

Peaty was absent from this month’s World Championships in Singapore, where a youthful Great Britain squad collected just two medals in the pool, including one gold in the men’s 4x200m freestyle relay.

However, speaking during a coaching session in Aberdeen, Peaty defended the team’s performance and urged patience as a new generation of swimmers emerges.

“There are a lot of fresh faces in the squad,” he said. “With any young team, there’s room for development. People might look at the medal count and say it’s not enough for the level of investment, but rebuilding takes time, especially after a major event like Paris.”

Peaty added that the focus now must be on maintaining high standards and avoiding complacency.

“The warning signs come when you think the job is done,” he said. “If we get too comfortable, results will slip. We need to stay sharp.”
