Morata Claims Galatasaray Broke Promises as He Gives Up Wages to Leave

Alvaro Morata says he was left with “no option” but to sacrifice part of his wages to leave Galatasaray, accusing the Turkish club of failing to meet certain obligations, Sport360NG reports.

The 32-year-old Spain captain moved to Istanbul in February on loan from AC Milan, with Galatasaray holding a €10m (£8.6m) option to make the deal permanent. However, the arrangement was ended by mutual consent earlier this week.

Morata is now close to sealing another loan move, this time to Serie A side Como, coached by his former Chelsea team-mate Cesc Fabregas.

Galatasaray said Milan will receive a €5m (£4.3m) termination fee and claimed Morata had given up €651,562 (£562,982) in outstanding payments.

Posting on Instagram, Morata thanked the club’s supporters for their “affection, warmth and support,” but said his dealings with Galatasaray were far less positive.

“There were occasions when promises were broken and respect for basic values was not maintained,” he wrote.

Signed by Milan from Atletico Madrid last summer on a four-year contract, Morata’s loan to Galatasaray was initially set to run until January 2026. The former Juventus and Real Madrid striker said he also had to relinquish other entitlements earned during his time there, and disputed the accuracy of the figures Galatasaray released.

“For me, principles such as respect for people’s rights should never be compromised,” he added. “Not recognising and paying what has been earned goes against the fairness and professionalism I believe in. I know these issues are often kept quiet, but I feel it’s important the fans know the real reason for my departure.”

BBC Sport has contacted Galatasaray for a response.
