Okoye set for Udinese return after injury ahead of Como clash
Nigeria international Maduka Okoye is in line to regain his starting role for Udinese Calcio ahead of their Serie A fixture against Como 1907 on Monday, following his recent injury setback during international duty, Sport360NG reports.
The goalkeeper had withdrawn from Nigeria’s second friendly against Jordan after sustaining a thigh injury in training, having previously featured in the Super Eagles’ 2-1 victory over Iran.
Providing an update ahead of the encounter, Udinese head coach Kosta Runjaic indicated that Okoye is no longer among the players facing fitness concerns, boosting his chances of returning to action.
Runjaic also revealed that the team trained with a near-complete squad over the weekend, marking their first full session since the international break.
“Apart from Jordan Zemura, Adam Buksa and Alessandro Zanoli, everyone else is available. Today we finally had everyone back together after the international break. Buksa is improving and we hope he resumes full training next week,” Runjaic told the club’s official website.
The Udinese boss also confirmed that Keinan Davis will miss the match due to suspension, while Jesper Karlstrom remains one booking away from a ban.
“Davis is a very important player for us, but we have to cope without him. He’s not easy to replace because of his unique qualities, but we have tried different solutions and will assess our options,” he added.
Udinese will be targeting an improved league standing, with Okoye playing a significant role in their campaign so far. The 24-year-old has made 22 appearances this season, recording six clean sheets.
