Keely Hodgkinson Breaks Meeting Record in Stunning Comeback

Keely Hodgkinson marked her return to the track in style by setting a world-leading 800m time in her first outing since claiming Olympic gold in Paris, Sport360NG reports.

The 23-year-old, racing in Silesia after more than a year out, produced a dominant performance to clock 1:54.74 – a new meeting record and the second-quickest time of her career. She finished comfortably ahead of Kenya’s Lilian Odira and Botswana’s Oratile Nowe.

Hodgkinson’s comeback had been delayed by a hamstring injury sustained in February, but the Briton looked back to her best as she delivered the fastest time in the event since her Olympic triumph.

“That was so much fun,” she said afterwards. “I really wanted this opportunity. There’s not much time to prepare for the Worlds, so I needed to put something down.”

The World Championships take place in Tokyo from 13–21 September.
