Højlund and Antony depart Manchester United as Amass seals loan switch

Manchester United have offloaded two senior players, with striker Rasmus Højlund moving to Napoli on loan and winger Antony sealing a permanent transfer to Real Betis, Sport360NG reports.

Denmark international Højlund, 22, has joined the Serie A champions on a season-long deal that includes an obligation to buy. The agreement will see Napoli complete a £38m transfer next summer.

Antony, meanwhile, has returned to Spain after a successful loan spell with Betis last season. The Brazilian forward, 25, has signed a five-year contract worth an initial £19m plus £2.6m in add-ons. United have also negotiated a 50% sell-on clause as part of the deal.

Signed for £81.3m from Ajax in 2022, Antony made 62 league appearances for United, scoring five times. Despite flashes of talent, he struggled for consistency and was unable to convince new manager Ruben Amorim of his long-term value. A domestic abuse case against him was dropped last year, but his on-pitch form never recovered.

Højlund, brought in from Atalanta for £72m in 2023, endured a frustrating second season at Old Trafford, managing only four Premier League goals in 2024–25. With Amorim overhauling his attack by bringing in Benjamin Šeško, Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, the young striker found himself surplus to requirements despite wanting to stay.

Amass heads to Wednesday

United have also allowed 18-year-old left-back Harry Amass to join Sheffield Wednesday on loan. The England youth international made his debut last season on his birthday against Leicester City and went on to play six more senior games.

Speaking after his move, Amass said: “I can’t wait to get going. I back myself, I know what I can do, and my aim is to perform consistently every week.”
