Littler destroys Humphries to claim first World Grand Prix Crown
World champion Luke Littler produced a ruthless display to defeat world number one Luke Humphries 6–1 and capture his maiden World Grand Prix title, Sport360NG reports.
The 18-year-old, who fell at the first hurdle on his tournament debut last year, showed immense maturity throughout this campaign, holding his nerve in several decisive legs to secure the £120,000 winner’s prize.
Although Humphries posted a higher average in the final, Littler’s finishing proved decisive as he claimed five of his six sets in last-leg deciders. The triumph marks his seventh televised PDC major title, drawing him level for the seventh-highest tally in darts history.
The victory also narrows the gap between Littler and Humphries at the top of the PDC Order of Merit to just over £70,000, setting up a fierce race to the World Championship in December.
“I’m very happy to tick this one off, it’s not the easiest event to win,” Littler told Sky Sports. “There aren’t many left now that I haven’t got.”
On his pursuit of the number one ranking, he added:
“The difference isn’t much when you look at the prize money on offer. Luke knows I’m right behind him, I’m coming for him.”
Humphries, who was appearing in his third consecutive World Grand Prix final, admitted he needs to raise his level to keep pace with the teenage sensation.
“I’ve got to get better and practise harder,” said the 2024 world champion. “If I don’t, he’ll end up winning everything. I need to dedicate everything to improving and matching him.”

The final began nervously, with Littler taking 13 darts to start scoring in the second leg before both players traded breaks. But once he found his rhythm, the teenager took control and never looked back.
After edging the opening set, Littler hit a 177 setup to seal the second with a 64 checkout and came within one dart of a nine-darter early in the third. Humphries’ missed doubles proved costly as Littler surged to a commanding lead.
Humphries briefly threatened a comeback with a 154 checkout to take the fifth set, but Littler quickly shut the door, winning the next two to complete a statement victory.
Despite outscoring his rival in 100+ totals and 180s, Humphries was left to rue missed chances, averaging 93.61 to Littler’s 92.15.
Just two years ago, Humphries lifted his first major title at this very event while Littler had yet to earn a PDC tour card. Since then, the pair have dominated the sport, winning 15 of the last 21 major titles between them.
